Tip of the week: How to cut up a chicken

Why pay $4/lb or more for chicken breasts when you can buy a whole chicken for as little as $2/lb and chop it up yourself? Cutting up 4 whole chickens takes mere minutes longer than dividing up a warehouse pack of pre-cut pieces.

And what to do with the carcasses, you ask? That’s easy, boil them in a large pot of water with some onion, celery and carrots for stock or homemade soups and stews.
